1941 Play Ball Near-Complete Set Missing DiMaggio Offered in (LOT 1157)
1941 PLAYBALL NEAR-SET!!! One of the hobby's most sought-after sets, this near-set of 71/72 cards from the 1941 Playball set features seven PSA-graded examples. For the first time, Play Ball introduced color to their release, offering some bright, bold images against delightfully toned backgrounds. The PSA-graded issues are as follows #s: PSA 5: 6 Hubbell & 64 Doerr; PSA 4: 18 Greenberg, 54 Reese & 70 Dickey; PSA 2.5: 13 Foxx; and PSA 2: 14 Williams. Other notable players and conditions are #s: 8 Ott (VG), 15 Cronin (EX OC), 19 Gehringer (VG off-center), 20 Ruffing (EX off-cut), 61 V. DiMaggio (EX with staining on top edge), 63 D. DiMaggio (EX with staining) and 72 Gomez (Fair). The remainder of the set displays VG to VG-EX with about 10-15% appearing much nicer, if not for the centering.
