1911-16 T216 Kotton Cigarettes Eddie Plank SGC 1.5 FR
RARE PLANK!!! From 1911 through 1916, the People's Tobacco Co. of New Orleans, Louisiana distributed baseball cards with their three cigarette brands, including Kotton, Mino and Virginia Extra. Ultra scarce and extremely condition-sensitive, these subjects rarely surface in any grade, with player images utilized from the 1909 E90-1 and E92 subjects. Presented here is a highly coveted T216 Kotton Cigarette SGC 1.5 Eddie Plank, one of only nine examples listed on SGC's census report. The exact image seen on Plank's iconic E90-1 American Caramel issue, the classic portrait pose is somewhat compromised by a vertical crease in the center of the card, extending from the upper to lower border. The critical KOTTON CIGARETTE ad back is relatively clean, and while several surface flaws and rounded corners justify the assessment, it is the sheer paucity level and right to own a copy that is most prevalent for this utterly elusive Plank tobacco keepsake!
