(LOT 1045)
1896-97 Cameo Pepsin Whitehead & Hoag Co. Gum Pin Dummy Hoy PSA 5 EX – The Only PSA Encapsulated Example!

SOLE PSA EXAMPLE!!! Originally issued in 1896 and regarded as baseball's inaugural pinbacks are the Cameo Pepsin Whitehead & Hoag Co. celluloids, with this unique PSA 5 Dummy Hoy gum pin residing as the SOLE PSA encapsulated example! We have never seen another Hoy gum pin, and its rarity is a perfect testament to the adversity Dummy Hoy had to overcome. At the age of three, he lost his hearing due to the ill effects of meningitis, only growing to a height of only 5'4". These setbacks did not stop William Hoy from pursuing a professional baseball career. Playing 14 seasons as one of the game's finest center fielders. Measuring 1-1/4" in diameter and completely intact, the pinback was issued when this deaf immortal patrolled center field in the Queen City, with "Cincinnati" affixed to the right side of his classic portrait pose. Hoy's name and "C.F." position are situated along the left rim, and the flipside includes the critical "CAMEO PEPSIN PIN – WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO." advertisement. A resounding 19th century artifact, it arguably resides as Hoy's rarest heirloom, with its one of a kind PSA pinback stature tantamount to Dummy's unequivocal standing as baseball's finest all-time deaf player!
