(LOT 716)
1909-11 T206 Addie Joss Portrait Sovereign 350/25 PSA 7 NM – POP 1 Sovereign Cigarettes; Only One Sovereign Example Graded Higher!

THE HUMAN HAIRPIN!!! The beloved Cleveland HOF twirler Addie Joss posted an unfathomable lifetime 1.89 ERA, the second lowest figure in baseball history behind Ed Walsh's 1.84 mark. Author of two no-hitters, in 1908 Joss tossed a perfect game against the Chicago White Sox, besting "Big Ed" Walsh 1-0 in one of the greatest pitched games in baseball history. Tragically passing away in April 1911 due to spinal meningitis, his sudden and tragic death is strikingly similar to the legacies of Gehrig and Clemente, with their heartbreaking circumstances literally superseding their incredible accomplishments. As a grand testament to the Human Hairpin, this PSA 7 NM T206 Joss Portrait Sovereign 350 Subjects offering is the sole Sovereign example at this pack-fresh plateau with only a single specimen graded higher. The classic Carl Horner portrait reveals breathtaking aesthetics, with the rich yellow setting and dazzling white borders the highlights of this time defying marvel. The fine top-to-bottom positioning is somewhat compromised by the image's partiality towards the left edge, with right-angled corners and clean surfaces the final compliments for this POP 1 masterpiece!
