(LOT 398)
1914 Cracker Jack #65 Tris Speaker PSA 2 GOOD

THE GRAY EAGLE!!! Aside from Tris Speaker's renowned 1909 T206 rookie, one of his most coveted cards is the Gray Eagle's 1914 Cracker Jack #65 subject, presented here in a superb PSA 2 holder. Exhibiting ultra-scarce near-perfect centering as well as eluding any obtrusive surface flaws, the rather harsh assessment is due to typical scattered staining on both sides. One of our National Pastime's greatest center fielders, Speaker is the author of a .344 lifetime batting average via 3,514 safeties, as well as revolutionizing the center field position by positioning himself almost behind second base. His classic glove-in-pocket image suffices as one of the hobby's most widely recognized poses, with the deep red background projecting the timeless image in an almost 3D manner. No glaring surface blemishes are evident, with a negligible diagonal wrinkle near the upper right corner as well as some stray faint wrinkles barely visible to the naked eye. The even corner wear is more consistent with a VG+ example, and as previously stated, the low technical assessment was most likely based on the scattered caramel corn stains commonly plaguing most 1914 subjects. One of Speaker's exalted issues, the splendid aesthetics for the grade merits serious attention from any esteemed Cracker Jack enthusiast!
