(LOT 370)
1914 Cracker Jack #37 Grover Cleveland Alexander Rookie PSA 2 GOOD

OLD PETE ROOKIE!!! One of the true rookie cards for the immortal Grover Cleveland Alexander is his 1914 Cracker Jack #37 subject, presented here in a PSA 2 holder. One of baseball's greatest pitchers is Grover Cleveland Alexander, and while Walter Johnson was mowing down hitters in the AL, Alexander was matching him with the Phillies, to the tune of claiming three consecutive Pitching Triple Crowns from 1915-1917, including 30 or more wins each of those seasons. He ended his spectacular career with 373 wins and 90 shutouts, more than justifying why collectors seek his '14 Cracker Jack rookie card. The severe condition sensitivity of the 1914 Cracker Jack thin-stock cards is well documented since they were inserted in Cracker Jack boxes, subjecting them to serious caramel corn stains. This offering's classic Old Pete pitching pose is superb, with the surrounding areas of scattered staining and soiling primarily eluding the timeless image. No obtrusive creases are evident, and the verso also includes common caramel corn stains. Subtle corner wear portrays a super eye-pleasing uniformity, and while the surfaces are plagued with numerous stains/soiling spots, it is the right to own a reasonable looking example of Alexander's irrefutable rookie that resides as the most prevalent issue!
