1952 Bowman #218 Vintage Signed Willie Mays PSA 2 (MK) GOOD; Auto Authentic – Only One Example Graded Higher (Qualifiers Notwithstanding)
VINTAGE SIGNED MAYS!!! This miraculous PSA 2 (MK) 1952 Bowman #218 subject has been signed by the Say Hey Kid, with the Willie Mays Authentic autograph scripted in vintage blue ballpoint ink. One of only nine signed 1952 Bowman Mays subjects, it has been bested by a single PSA 2.5 example (qualifiers notwithstanding) and joined by a sole PSA 2 copy. The other six PSA copies include five Authentic and a single PSA 1.5, with the early to mid-1950s "Willie Mays" ink signature boasting "7-8" strength. Finding any scripted 1952 Bowman Mays is an excruciating task, let alone one penned by the immortal Mays during that 1950s era. The rare blue ink signature is affixed directly above Willie's left arm, with the classic batting pose revealing the finest possible clarity and sparkling hues. The front side exhibits a relatively clean surface, with the MK qualifier due to a faint ink mark barely visible to the naked eye along the left border. Preventing a higher assessment are what appear to be negligible glue remnants on the verso, most likely due to scrapbook removal. Imagine, the iconic Mays held this revered offering in his hands some 70+ years ago when he was embarking on a career that would place him as one of baseball's greatest all-time players!
