(LOT 39)
1952 Bowman #1 Yogi Berra PSA 9 MINT

YOGI'S BEST!!! The #1 subject of any vintage set is typically subject to numerous condition-related issues due to it being placed at the top of the stack by enthralled young collectors who organized their sets in checklist number order. Indeed, these first cards were plagued by rubber band marks, sunlight, and any possible elements that could negatively impact an unprotected card. No wonder there are so few 9 or 10 graded pre-1960 cards to choose from, with this absolutely miraculous PSA 9 MINT 1952 Bowman #1 Yogi Berra offering literally defying logic. One of only six examples on the PSA pop chart, it stands at the pinnacle of success since PSA has not encapsulated a single 10. Along with Johny Bench, the immortal Yogi Berra is arguably considered the greatest catcher of all time, and it would take virtually a full catalog to appropriately list all of his remarkable achievements. Highly noted for his clutch performances on baseball's grandest stages, Berra's string of World Series records incredibly includes: 14 appearances, 10 championships, 75 games and 71 hits. He also walloped 12 homers and knocked in 39 runs, and if that isn't enough, he won three MVP awards and played in a remarkable 15 All-Star games.

Along with the immortal Mickey Mantle, he was the main cog on a Yankee team that played in a majority of the Fall Classics from the late 1940s through the early 1960s. All of the above are a steadfast testament to Berra's all-time stature, justifying why a myriad of elite collectors' scramble to obtain his finest existing artifacts. Virtually none could possibly best the awe-inspiring eye appeal of this museum-worthy PSA 9 that reveals atypical near-perfect centering, with a majority of 1952 Bowman subjects depicting skewed images. His classic batting pose boasts Berra's legendary Yankee pinstripes and cap, with both flawless surfaces exhibiting their original factory issued quality. Blistering sharp corner tips, crystal clear clarity, and sparkling hues are the final superlatives justifying the world-class assessment, and many meticulous enthusiasts would agree this card borders on being the first example worthy of the "perfect" 10 assessment. Of significant note, this exact same offering sold for a record-setting $75K in a 2022 public auction, truly substantiating the notion that its unparalleled aesthetics may place it as the finest of the six existing PSA 9 specimens!
