1984 & 1985 Topps USFL Football Complete Sets - Hand-Collated
USFL SETS!!! In 1983, the United States Football League emerged as a viable competitor to the NFL, though the USFL played games in the spring and summer to avoid direct competition with the titanic NFL league. Playing only from 1983 to 1985, the USFL drew significant players from the college ranks to the 18-team league and enjoyed a reasonably high viewership from fans longing for year-round football, but due to anti-trust lawsuits against the NFL, overspending by many owners, stadium contracts and franchise relocation, the league folded in 1986 after trying to move the season to the fall to directly compete with the NFL. During those years, Topps created the USFL Football sets offered here ungraded from 1984 & 1985. Both sets appear to have just had the cards pulled out and put into number order and feature many of the rising stars of the era as well as numerous would-be future Hall of Famers in the 1984 Topps #36 Kelly (NM) & #52 Young (NM+), and 1985 Topps #45 Kelly (NM-MT) & #65 Young (NM-MT).
