(LOT 857)
1948 Leaf #79 Jackie Robinson Rookie PSA 1.5 FR

ROOKIE SENSATION!!! Not too many players in history have had the sort of impact that Jackie Robinson had on Major League Baseball. His courage and tenacity in the face of severe racism across the nation are as much a part of his legacy as being the first black player to be rostered in a big-league lineup. When Robinson started at first base for the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947, he not only broke the color barrier but became a force to reckon with in a strong Dodger lineup. In 1947, he easily won the NL Rookie of the Year honor with a .297 average, 175 hits, including 12 home runs and 29 stolen bases. Offered is his Andy Warhol-esque 1948 Leaf #79 Jackie Robinson graded 1.5 FR by PSA. The brilliant bold yellow background continues to catch your eye, and Robinson's central image remains clear and strong. A crease has seemingly fractured this cardboard gem at center, running right to left, but fails to distract from Jackie's youthful smiling face. Borders remain in decent condition with excellent centering, and the reverse is clear and bold. Jackie Robinson continues to be one of the most sought-after subjects in the hobby, no matter the grade, and this example is one to consider. This one is a cornerstone card around which to build. 1947 NL ROY, 1949 NL MVP and Hall of Famer here!
