1939 Play Ball #92 Ted Williams Rookie PSA 5 EX
THUMPER!!! When asked who the greatest hitters of all time were, Ted Williams cited Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Rogers Hornsby and Joe DiMaggio, ironically omitting perhaps the greatest pure hitter in history, himself. From a young age, Williams' goal was to be able to walk down the street and have people say, "There goes the greatest hitter that ever lived". And while it may have never overtly been pronounced in his presence, most certainly those who encountered the Splendid Splinter surely felt that sentiment. As a rookie in 1939, Williams hit .327 with 31 homers and 145 RBIs. Not until 1959, his second to last season in the big leagues, would The Kid bat below the .300-mark. In 1941, he hit .406 for the Red Sox, the last time in American League history that any player hit above .400. Offered is the 1939 Play Ball #92 Ted Williams Rookie in a PSA 5 EX. Clear imagery on this one with decent borders, though OC. Clean reverse, lightly touched corners and strong edging.
