(LOT 790)
1911-14 General Baking D304 Honus Wagner SGC 1.5 FR

RARE HONUS!!! From 1911 through 1914, various Buffalo, NY based bakeries issued 25 different baseball card subjects as advertisements for their bakery products. The obverse sides include colorful eye-pleasing lithographic-style player images, with the backs depicting the following five different bakery brands: Brunners, Weber Bakery Co., Butter Krust, General Bakery Co., and Martens Bakery. Typically, the two most valuable D304 bread cards are Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner, with this SGC 1.5 General Baking Co. D304 Wagner being the SOLE example at this plateau and only one SGC 2 specimen graded higher on the combined SGC and PSA Pop Charts! Indeed, its extreme rarity is justified by both PSA and SGC listing only six combined General Baking Wagners, and although this offering's flipside reveals significant scrapbook removal damage, its sheer existence and super eye-pleasing Wagner image more than offset the compromised ad back. The Flying Dutchman's classic swinging pose is exceptional as he watches another scalding line drive jump off the barrel of his lumber, with the brilliant blue-green setting and fine centering being the final superlatives for this ultra-rare Honus keepsake!
