(LOT 471)
1933 Goudey #154 Jimmy Foxx PSA 8 NM-MT

THE BEAST!!! Presented here is one of the most remarkable Jimmie Foxx 1933 Goudeys in existence, an awe-inspiring PSA 8 NM-MT #154 example that joins only 12 other specimens as the finest of its kind! Of course, the highlight of this majestic offering is the legendary Jimmie Foxx batting image that was originally taken by none other than the immortal photographer Charles M. Conlon. Not even the extremely gifted Conlon could possibly realize that his timeless Foxx pose would mesmerize viewers for nearly a century of time, with its esteemed stature on Foxx's Goudey subject etched in the hearts and souls of the hobby's most passionate collectors. Along with Hornsby and Aaron, many baseball historians consider Jimmy Foxx one of the three greatest right-handed hitters in baseball history. Nicknamed "The Beast" because of his supernatural power, Foxx terrorized pitchers to the tune of 534 lifetime home runs and, along with Gehrig, knocked in a record 100 or more runs in 13 consecutive seasons.

The year this card was issued, Foxx would claim the American League Triple Crown by belting 48 dingers, knocking in 163 runs and posting a sensational .356 batting average with his 204 safeties. He would end his sensational 20-year career with a .325 average, 1,922 RBIs and an unfathomable 1.038 OPS, easily placing him as one of our National Pastime's greatest all-time sluggers. His imposing batting pose reveals Double XX as if he has just walloped another majestic long-ball, donning his familiar Philadelphia Athletics gray flannels. Justifying the elite assessment is a near-immaculate image, razor-sharp edging, a radiant yellow setting, crystal-clear clarity, bright white borders and sparkling hues. Most incredibly, the hallowed image boasts near-perfect 50/50 centering, with a myriad of Goudey subjects revealing skewed images. The final exclamation point is a super clean verso, with both surfaces retaining nearly all of their original factory-issued quality. Justifying its esteemed stature is another PSA 8 example fetching a record-setting $103K in a 2021 Memory Lane auction. Indeed, its current "shared" number one ranking will more than suffice for even the most meticulous enthusiasts, with this blazer's extraordinary aesthetics and lofty PSA assessment meriting the highest hobby accolades!
