1911 T3 Turkey Red Cabinets #39 Rube Waddell Checklist Back PSA 5 EX
T3 RUBE!!! This PSA 5 EX 1911 T3 Rube Waddell marvel has only been bested by eight PSA examples! It is said that Rube Waddell would leave the ballpark to chase fire engines at the sound of their whistles and perform cartwheels on the playing field. Yet, he was good enough over an eleven-year period to win almost 200 games, lead the AL in strikeouts for six consecutive seasons (including 349 in 1904 that still stands as an AL record for a southpaw), and compile a microscopic 2.16 lifetime ERA. Philadelphia A's manager Connie Mack reluctantly traded him to the Browns before the 1908 season, tragically dying in 1914 at the age of 37 due to the ill effects of tuberculosis obtained by helping Kentucky flood victims after standing for hours in icy water to place sandbags on a river embankment. His splendid T3 reveals a brilliantly hued pitching pose, with the relatively clean surfaces only exhibiting some diminutive surface notches beneath his left armpit and on the upper left border. Overall, an outstanding Waddell heirloom!
