COMMERCE COMET!!! The 1961 Major League Baseball season was front-page news once again as New York Yankees teammates Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris battled to topple legendary Yankees slugger Babe Ruth's single-season home run record. The M&M Boys went at it notching dinger for dinger well into September until Mantle fell ill and missed the final 12 games of the season, opening the door for Maris' assault on Ruth's record. Maris hit his 61st HR on the final day of the season, aptly against Boston. Astonishingly, Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris won five of the seven AL MVP awards from 1956 to 1962. Offered here is a 1961 Topps #300 Mickey Mantle graded 8 NM-MT by PSA. This colorful and clear example of The Mick displays respectable centering with wonderful white borders and sharpness along each edge and corner. The reverse is superb and save for the light OC, this Mantle from '61 presents as one of the finer PSA 8s that we have had the pleasure to offer.
