(LOT 116)
1959 Topps #464 Mays' Catch Makes Series History PSA 9 MINT - Only One PSA Example Graded Higher!

ALL-TIME GREATEST CATCH!!! In Game One of the 1954 World Series, "Vic Wertz teed off on a high hard one and sent the ball screaming into the furthest recesses of the cavernous Polo Grounds center field ... (before) Willie Mays poured on the speed, reached out and grabbed the ball—his back to the plate." This all comes from the back of the card from 69 years ago, and the film imagery of the catch is still regarded as the greatest catch in Major League Baseball history. There have been many "greatest catches" made since that grab in 1954, but with all due respect to Kirby Puckett, Jim Edmonds, Ken Griffey, Jr. and Ben Revere, Willie Mays stands atop the mountain with the best catch in MLB history. The offered 1959 Topps #464 Mays' Catch Makes Series History commemorates that moment in this high-grade 9 MINT holder. The framing is as spectacular as Mays' grab, familiarly referred to as The Catch, with striking color, and crystal-clear imagery.
