(LOT 43)
1935 Diamond Stars #1 Lefty Grove PSA 7 NM

NEAR-MINT GROVE!!! One of Lefty Grove's most iconic cardboard issues is his 1935 Diamond Stars subject, presented here in a brilliant PSA 7 holder. The ultra-condition-sensitive #1 subject in the colorful Diamond Stars set, only nine other examples have managed to achieve this hallowed grade, with a mere eight specimens graded higher! Lefty Grove's incomparable HOF career includes 300 wins, seven consecutive strikeout titles (1925-1931), and owner of an MLB record nine single-season ERA titles. His finest season was 1930, when he posted an unfathomable 31-4 record, with the Athletics claiming their second consecutive championship.

His 300-140 lifetime record equates to an incomprehensible .682 lifetime winning percentage, the finest of all 300 game winners. To place his legacy in perspective, renowned sportswriter Arthur "Bugs" Baer once remarked, "Grove's left arm is so fast he could throw a lamb chop past a wolf". His awe-inspiring pitching pose portrays Grove releasing another one of his seemingly "speed of light" fastballs, with the clean borders, sharp right-angled corners, impeccable surfaces, and sparkling hues all justifying the seldom-surfacing PSA 7 assessment!
