(LOT 24)
1915 E106 American Caramel Honus Wagner Batting PSA 1.5 FR

SCARCE HONUS!!! One of the scarcest Honus Wagner cards is his E106 American Caramel issue, originating from a 48-card set regionally distributed in York, PA. Due to their glossy coated obverse surfaces, these cards were very susceptible to heavy creasing and/or cracking, resulting in most examples revealing low grades. Presented here is a formidable E106 specimen of the immortal HOF shortstop, a super eye-pleasing PSA 1.5 memento that has only been bested by seven PSA encapsulated copies! Ten of the 20 PSA-graded specimens indicate either 1 or Authentic grades, justifying the E106's extreme condition sensitivity.

The classic Wagner batting image (likewise affixed to other pre-1920 "E" candy cards such as E90-1, E92, E101, E102, etc.) depicts an outstanding array of gray and blue hues, as well as a striking red background. The image modestly favors the right edge, and the superb aesthetics are easily consistent with any VG example. Preventing a higher grade are some scattered soiling and surface abrasions on the verso, as well as a diminutive surface scratch near the front side's lower right corner. Obscure Wagner "E" cards continue to soar in value, and only a handful of his cardboard keepsakes could possibly match the combined paucity level and outstanding eye appeal of this extremely elusive E106 marvel!
