1955 Topps #164 Roberto Clemente Rookie PSA 6 EX-MT
CLEMENTE ROOKIE!!! Roberto Clemente's hallowed 1955 Topps rookie card transcends time back to an era when he was embarking on a career for the ages, and this superb PSA 6 example emanates sparkling aesthetics. Following his 1954 campaign with the Montreal Royals of the AAA International League, Clemente would be summoned by the Pirates to be their starting right-fielder for the 1955 season. While he only posted a .255 batting average, his flashes of brilliance captivated the Pittsburgh faithful, and the following 1956 campaign, Clemente would bolster his batting average to .311. While his remarkable career spanned 18 seasons, this immortal Cooperstown Inductee will forever be best remembered for his tragic death. The card portrays splendid hues, with the classic portrait and batting poses exhibiting fine contrast and clarity. The well-centered does slightly favor the lower left edges, with a diminutive smudge situated near the lower left edge. No glaring flaws are evident, and the modest corner wear is consistent with the grade. A bona fide keeper, it stands as one of the hobby's foremost rookie cards extant!
