1921 E253 Oxford Conf. Ty Cobb PSA 2 Good

TYRUS CANDY TREAT!!! The Oxford Confectionery Co. of Oxford, PA produced a 20-subject caramel set in 1920, considered by hobbyists as one of the most eclectic pre-WWII issues. As with most pre-1930s issues, one of the set's most coveted subjects is the immortal Tyrus Raymond Cobb, who had already notched a seemingly unbreakable record of 12 batting titles. The 1921 campaign would see the iconic Cobb post a sensational .389 batting average, the 16th consecutive season he would surpass the .300 mark. The card itself exhibits an imposing Georgia Peach portrait that actually reveals Cobb showcasing a rarely seen good-natured smile. Accounting for the assessment are rounded corners, some stray wrinkles and general surface wear and toning, with none of these modest flaws compromising the splendid central image. Along with his E121 subjects, this Tyrus candy treat truly stands as one of his most compelling 1920s cardboard mementos!
