c.1960s Original PSA-Encapsulated Type 1 Syracuse University Ernie Davis Yearbook Photograph - Measures Approx. 8" x 10"

ELMIRA EXPRESS!!! Syracuse Orangeman Ernie Davis had all the skills and potential, but sadly lacked the time. At the urging of Jim Brown, former Syracuse star running back and now NFL MVP Ernie Davis entered Syracuse and made an immediate impact on the Orangemen squad, leading them to the National Championship in 1959. Then, after capturing All-American honors in 1960 and '61, Ernie Davis was picked #1 overall by the Washington Redskins in the 1962 NFL Draft and immediately traded to the Cleveland Browns, teaming him with his mentor Brown in the backfield. Unfortunately, that same year, Davis was diagnosed with acute monocytic leukemia, and he passed away on May 13, 1963 having never played a down in the NFL. Offered here is a circa-1960s Original Type 1 photograph used for his Syracuse University Yearbook from 1962. This PSA encapsulated Type 1 Authentic photograph remains in excellent condition with crystal-clear imagery, excellent borders and only the lightest of touches at the corners. Once a part of the 1996 Sporting News Collection, as per the reverse stamp, the back also holds the typewritten "Syracuse University – Ernie Davis-hb – 6-2 205 '62 – Elmira, NY" caption at the lower right corner. This is a rare artifact from Ernie Davis' brief football career!
