(LOT 513)
c.1941 Ted Williams Autographed George Burke RDM Studio Type 1 Photo PSA/DNA Authentic 8 NM-MT Auto Grade with PSA/DNA LOA

BOYISH "BALLGAME"!!! In 1941, the Boston Red Sox's Ted Williams quite literally had a career year, posting a batting average of .406, the last time anyone has eclipsed the .400-mark, and leading the American League in runs scored (135), home runs (37), walks (147), on-base percentage (.553) and slugging (.735). In any other season, the AL MVP would have been a foregone conclusion, but New York Yankees centerfielder Joe DiMaggio posted a 56-game hitting streak, a run that has yet to be approached in some 82 years, and snatched the award out from under Williams. This would be the first of two times that DiMaggio would top Williams in MVP voting. Teddy Ballgame would in fact finish as runner-up in AL MVP voting four times but would win the title in 1946 and 1949. He easily could have been the first player to win four, if not five, MVP awards, no matter the league.

Offered is a gorgeous RDM Studio silver gelatin photo measuring approximately 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" and stamped on the back "RDM Studio 847 Belmont Ave", home of famed photographer George Burke's Studio in Chicago. Signed superbly in black with a steel-tipped fountain pen that surely would rate at a 9-10 strength. The photo was taken during that 1941 season. Williams' .553 on-base percentage that season set a single-season record that stood for 61 years and was not surpassed until 2002 by San Francisco's Barry Bonds. This authentic Type 1 George Burke photograph of the Splendid Splinter has been encapsulated by PSA/DNA and graded a PSA/DNA 8 NM-MT Auto. Also included is an LOA certifying the autograph's authenticity, grade and photo as a Type 1.
