(LOT 299)
1953 Bowman Color #59 Mickey Mantle PSA 7 NM

'53 BOWMAN MICK!!! Mickey Mantle became the next superstar to don the Yankee pinstripes that were so proudly worn by the likes of Babe Ruth, Lous Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio, and many more. The Mick became the next great thing in the New York lineup in 1951, and then in 1952 when he replaced Joe D in center following DiMaggio's retirement. The Commerce Comet would endear himself to Yankee fans with monstrous home runs and a skill set with which they were unfamiliar. He clouted 536 home runs, drove in 1,509 runs, was a 20X All-Star, won three AL MVPs and led New York to seven World Series titles.

Mantle enthusiasts would firmly place his 1953 Bowman Color #59 card in high-grade as one of the most coveted. Mickey Mantle stands alone at the top of the post-WWI baseball card market, driven by his 1952 Topps #311 Rookie, but we cannot discount the surge in prices for virtually all of the mainstream Mantle issues that have also enjoyed a spike over the past few years. Offered here is his 1953 Bowman Color #53 graded 7 NM by PSA. This alluring example is pleasing to the eye, with Mantle in his posed follow-through against a sky-blue background. The image looks superbly framed within four white borders, displaying only light touches at the corners. The surfaces are clean and fresh.
