(LOT 118)
1932 U.S. Caramel #22 Jack Dempsey PSA 8 NM-MT – Only One Example Graded Higher!

DEMPSEY KNOCKOUT!!! Immortal boxer Jack Dempsey reigned as heavyweight champion from 1919 to 1926, losing his belt to Gene Tunney in 1926. The September 22, 1927 rematch remains one of the most iconic boxing matchups of all time, with Tunney winning the bout due to the hallowed "long count". In the 7th round, Dempsey knocked down Tunney with a monstrous left hook, but Dempsey would not go back to his corner. This delayed the referee in beginning his count, which allowed Tunney extra time to pick himself up off the canvas and retain his title. Dempsey's most renowned sports card is arguably his '32 U.S. Caramel, presented here in an outstanding PSA 8 holder, with only a single PSA 8.5 example graded higher! The Manassa Mauler's classic image is astonishing, highlighted by a sharp perimeter, fine centering with only a slight favoring towards the lower edge, and clean surfaces, with these pack-fresh attributes justifying the grade!
