1916 H801-9 The Globe Stores #38 Ty Cobb PSA 6.5 EX-MT+ - The SOLE PSA Example & the Highest Graded Copy on Any POP Chart!

HIGHEST GRADED TYRUS!!! If you are seeking one of the rarest pre-WWI Ty Cobb vintage cards, your search is over because this miraculous PSA 6.5 EX-MT+ 1916 H801-9 Globe Stores #38 Ty Cobb stands as the SOLE example on the prestigious PSA Pop Chart! A bona fide PSA POP 1, finest of its kind marvel, the pinnacle 6.5 assessment outdistances its closest SGC 4 VG-EX peer by a resounding 2.5 grades, easily presenting itself in near-mint+ fashion. The utmost rarity of this offering cannot be overemphasized, with SGC's census report revealing a meager four specimens graded lower. In the Spring of 1916, the Chicago-based Felix Mendelsohn Publishing Co. issued a 200-subject M101-5 blank-back group of baseball cards as a promotional tool for their popular brand. Later that year, other manufacturers placed their product ads on the flipsides of the very similar 200-subject set in lieu of the advertisement success of the inaugural M101-5 issue. While some of the manufacturer ad backs are more common (e.g., Sporting News; Famous & Barr), one of the obscure advertisements is from The Globe Stores, which issued a standard M101-4 player checklist as opposed to the M101-5 issued set.

Furthermore, the #38 Cobb subject was only issued in the subsequent M101-4 sets, inexplicably omitted from the original M101-5 compilation. Along with the exalted Babe Ruth Rookie and Joe Jackson subjects, the #38 Ty Cobb resides as the H801-9 Globe Store's most valuable card, and finding one of the five known Globe Stores Cobb specimens is an excruciating task, let alone this pinnacle graded example. Ty Cobb's iconic baseball stature is etched in stone, with the 1936 HOF Charter Member still considered by many experts as baseball's greatest all-time five-tool player. This museum-worthy masterpiece offers breathtaking eye appeal, including a crystal-clear Cobb bunting illustration. The iconic image was originally struck by legendary photographer Francis P. Burke (Burke & Atwell) and also appears on Cobb's Max Stein Postcard and E126 American Caramel issues. Exhibiting near-perfect centering, no glaring surface flaws are apparent, with the sharp corners and overall aesthetics more consistent with a near-mint+ example. Most significantly, "THE GLOBE" ad back has defied time, retaining its original bold black print and affixed to a moderately toned off-white surface. Like Cobb's superior playing prowess, the unparalleled best of the best PSA 6.5 assessment speaks for itself, with this highest graded heirloom worthy of being a centerpiece attraction in one of the finest Georgia Peach collections on the planet!
