(LOT 101)
1911 M110 Sporting Life Cabinet Honus Wagner PSA 2 (MK) Good

HONUS RARITY!!! No cardboard memento could possibly surpass the brilliant color patterns of the ultra-obscure 1911 M110 Sporting Life Cabinet premiums issued by the Sporting Life News Dealer Co. that included Cobb, Wagner, Mathewson, Chance, Lajoie and Chase. As is the case with virtually all pre-WWI issues, the two most valuable and desirable players in this six-subject set are the immortal Honus Wagner and Ty Cobb, and it is the iconic Wagner's M110 Sporting Life Cabinet that is presented here in a PSA 2 (MK) holder. As a testament to its sheer paucity, PSA's census report only lists a mere 15 other examples, with any M110 Cabinets seldom surfacing for the taking! This exquisite Sporting Life Wagner portrays a unique image of the immortal shortstop only utilized on the M110 cabinet, and since a Wagner Turkey Red subject was never released due to his assumed disdain for promoting tobacco products, this offering suffices as one of the few Wagner cabinets extant, along with his W600 Sporting Life, T5 Pinkerton and JKA issues.

It's no secret that pre-WWI cards depicting the legendary Wagner are arguably the hottest vintage collectibles, primarily due to the legacy of Wagner's sanctified T206 specimen. What sometimes gets overlooked is that Wagner just happens to be the greatest shortstop in baseball history, with his batting and fielding excellence earning him a rightful nod as one of five 1936 Hall of Fame Charter members. The exquisite Wagner batting stance image is omnipresent in nature, emanating a brilliant array of gray, green, and brown pastel hues as Hans prepares to smack another one of his legendary safeties. Most significantly, this artifact's classic Wagner central image emanates a seldom encountered bright pastel radiance, not the washed-out look typically evident on most M110 subjects. Accounting for the grade are even corner wear, a few diagonal creases near the right corners, and some faint stray pencil marks along several borders, accounting for the MK qualifier. The iconic Wagner image remains virtually unscathed, with the overall eye appeal of this elusive keepsake consistent with a VG assessment. One of the most breathtaking Wagner cards extant, it has stubbornly defied time over the past 112 years, emanating an extraordinary tranquility from a bygone era when the Flying Dutchman graced the diamond arguably better than all of his inferior peers!
