1920 W522 #48 Babe Ruth Hand Cut PSA Authentic
INAUGURAL BIG APPLE BAMBINO!!! One of the scarcest of all "W" strip cards is the ever-elusive 1920 W522 issue, which includes 20 subjects numbered 31-50. The complete strips were distributed to mom and pop grocery and candy stores, with the #48 Babe Ruth subject presented here in a PSA Authentic holder. One of only 17 PSA graded copies, 13 of those examples carry Authentic assessments, with this particular offering deemed Authentic because of the manual hand cut resulting in no side or lower borders. Intriguing to say the least, the Ruth pose reveals the Bambino throwing right-handed! Indeed, along with the W520 Ruth strip, the W522 likewise exhibits a reverse-negative image of the Babe, and that feature, as well as this offering residing as one of Ruth's few known 1920 inaugural Yankees issuess places it a most significant heirloom for any sophisticated Sultan of Swat gathering!
