(LOT 20)
1921 Schapira Bros. Babe Ruth "Waiting for a High One" Hand Cut SGC 1.5 FAIR – Same Image Used on Ruth's Iconic 1921 Exhibit Card – POP 2

'21 EXHIBIT RUTH POSE!!! Arguably the most sought-after of all seven 1921 Schapira Bros. Babe Ruth subjects is the "Waiting for a High One" version, which is the exact same image affixed to Ruth's iconic 1921 "Hands on Knees" Exhibit card. Seldom surfacing for the taking, presented here is a stellar SGC 1.5 marvel that is one of only two SGC examples at this tier, with only eight SGC specimens graded higher! One of those specimens, an SGC 3.5, fetched a staggering $12,688 in February 2022. Regarding desirability, this "Waiting for a High One" subject may be the most coveted of the seven Schapira Bros. Ruth mementos, obviously due to the 1921 Exhibit pose. The critical Ruth image still emanates fine aesthetics, ably assisted by the striking red and blue background hues. No glaring surface flaws are evident, with the grade due to a somewhat irregular cut and upper left corner wear. Issued during the year that Ruth would break his own home run record by clouting 59 dingers, it conjures up captivating memories of how this man forever changed our national pastime via his unmatched persona and majestic home runs.
