(LOT 14)
1926-29 Exhibits Babe Ruth Postcard Back (Blue-Tint Pose) PSA 5 EX

SCARCE MID-GRADE RUTH!!! As with virtually all the 1920s and '30s exhibit sets, the most valuable subject is Babe Ruth, with this outstanding 1926-29 Blue-Tint Pose PSA 5 EX example one of only eight encapsulated copies, while being bested by a meager four specimens! This awe-inspiring blue-tinted representation of the Sultan of Swat depicts him bat in hand against his left shoulder, portraying the mighty Babe as he is about to step to the plate to wallop another one of his colossal round-trippers. For all his achievements, none could ever be more distinguished than Ruth's 714 home runs, bested only by Bonds and Aaron. During the period this seldom-surfacing exhibit/postcard was issued, the Babe electrified his fanbase by leading the Yankees to two consecutive world series championships (1927-28), with his momentous 60 round-trippers in 1927 paving the way. No wonder passionate collectors seek his obscure pre-1930s cardboard treasures, which are a mere fraction of the thousands of 1933 Goudey cards representing the Bambino.

Ruth's imposing central image emanates an array of aesthetically pleasing qualities, including near-perfect contrast and sharp focus. You can practically feel Ruth gripping the bat as he prepares to wreak havoc on another overmatched hurler. This awe-inspiring marvel exhibits an abundance of near-mint attributes, only downgraded to its current technical assessment due to even corner wear consistent with the assessment. No glaring surface blemishes are evident on either side, and the desirable postcard verso is relatively clean, only revealing some negligible discoloration from nearly a century of potential wear. Of utmost significance, the obverse side's bold blue background is so rich that some of its robust hues bleed through the flip side.

Collectors truly realize that mid-grade exhibits from the 1920s are extremely tough to locate, with their 5 technical assessments nearly equivalent to near-mint or better grades for 1930s Goudey examples, as the population reports will easily substantiate that notion. This exact card sold for $34K in a June 2022 public auction, and with that said, we let you ultimately decide its current value, considering the escalating pricing points being realized for virtually all pre-1930 Babe Ruth cardboard treasures!
