(LOT 1890)
1998 Cal Ripken Jr. Autographed Streak Ending Limited-Edition Commemorative Bat and Ball

STREAK ENDS!!!... In 1995, Cal Ripken, Jr. surpassed Lou Gerhig's iron man 2,130 consecutive games played streak. Ripken would finish his career with an unreachable 2,632 consecutive games played, when he removed himself from the lineup in the final home game of the season to avoid rumors and speculation in the off-season. Offered here is a pair of autographed keepsakes commemorating the end of that streak signed by the Hall of Fame shortstop. This limited-edition pairing consisted of a snow-white Official RO-A (Gene Budig) American League baseball signed by Cal Ripken in the Sweet Spot in blue ballpoint, with "685/2632" inscribed on the east panel.

A $0.33 postage stamp is affixed to the north panel with a postal cancellation of "Cal Ripken, Jr – SEPT 20, 1998 – Baltimore, MD" imprinted onto the stamp and ball. A black Louisville Slugger Cal Ripken model P72 bat is also included with "SEPT 20, 1998 – THE STREAK ENDS – 868 of 2632" stamped in silver on the barrel. Ripken has also signed the barrel in silver paint pen. Each of the signatures are at a "9" strength making this a highly desirable duo of one of the great shortstops and iron men of all time.
