Extremely Rare 1879 Alexander Cartwright Signed Check - PSA/DNA 8 NM-MT
As one of the rarer artifacts from the early days of baseball, Alexander Cartwright checks are one of the more coveted signed documents for any Hall of Fame check collector. Written in the amount of $100 to "M. Paiko" and graded 8 NM-MT by PSA, this extremely rare check is dated "Oct 4th, 1879" from Cartwright's Honolulu bank account, where he spent much of the latter half of his life after leaving baseball. Alexander Cartwright was officially declared the inventor of the modern game of baseball by the United States Congress on June 3, 1953, but recent findings have called into question his contributions to baseball in the developmental days. More judiciously, he is one of several people sometimes called a father of baseball in the twenty-first century. Cartwright was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1938!
