(LOT 1832)
Walter Johnson Signed Cancelled Check Dated 2/27/41 PSA/DNA 9 MINT

Walter Johnson wrote this check to Strayer College dated February 27, 1941 for $29.00. Founded in 1892, Strayer College specializes in degree programs for working adults seeking to further or complete their education. Nicknamed "The Big Train", Johnson is considered one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history establishing several pitching records, some of which remain unbroken nine decades after he retired from baseball.

He remains the all-time career leader in shutouts with 110, is second in wins with 417, and is fourth in complete games with an astonishing 531. He held the career record in strikeouts for nearly 56 years, with 3,508 until the 1983 season, when three pitchers (Steve Carlton, Nolan Ryan and Gaylord Perry) finally surpassed his mark. Johnson was the only player in the 3,000 strikeout club (achieved July 22, 1923) until Bob Gibson recorded his 3,000th strikeout on July 17, 1974. This fine check has been authenticated by PSA and deemed a PSA 9 MINT autograph. A must for the Baseball Hall of Fame collector!
