1933 Goudey #188 Rogers Hornsby PSA 7.5 NM+ - "POP 3"

HIGH-GRADE HORNSBY!!!... By 1933, Hall of Fame second sacker Rogers Hornsby was certainly in the twilight of his amazing career, having recently managed the Chicago Cubs and about to go back to Missouri to manage the hapless St. Louis Browns. In 1926, the Rajah did lead the Cardinals to a World Championship as a player-manager, during a time when he was still considered baseball's most formidable right-handed hitter. Indeed, Hornsby's stature as one of baseball's greatest all-time hitters stems from his unfathomable five-year run from 1921 through 1925 that produced three .400+ batting seasons and a beyond amazing .401 batting average over that historic span!

Ultimately ending his career with the second highest lifetime batting average (.358) only behind Cobb, this PSA 7.5 NM+ 1933 Goudey #188 offering certainly resides as one of his finest preserved cards. One of only three PSA examples at this lofty tier, this #188 subject depicts the immortal Cooperstown Inductee in a managerial image, with the surfaces and corners exhibiting a majority of their original factory issued attributes. Fine centering only reveals a slight partiality towards the lower left edges, and no glaring blemishes are evident for one of Hornsby's most popular subjects!
