(LOT 520)
1909 E92 Nadja Caramel Roger Bresnahan PSA 6 EX MT – Only 2 PSA Examples Graded Higher!

SCARCE E92 NADJA!!!... The various E92 issues that were produced in 1909 included brand names such as Croft's Cocoa/Candy, Dockman & Sons, and Nadja Caramels. Each issue included advertisement for their respective brand on the back of the card, with the Nadja Caramel's among the scarcest of all E92 issues. Since Nadja candy was produced by the Blake-Wenneker Candy Co. of St. Louis, the 1909 set included 12 additional cards, representing various St. Louis Browns players. One of the two Hall of Fame subjects, catcher Roger Bresnahan, is presented here in an outstanding PSA 6 EX-MT holder, one of a mere nine examples at this plateau with only two specimens graded higher! While a formidable hitter and stellar defensive catcher, Hall of Famer Roger Bresnahan's most notable contributions to our National Pastime were the protective devices he created for batting and catching after he was hospitalized by a bean-ball in 1905.

He is largely credited for the inaugural batter's helmet, protective catcher's shin guards and provided significant input in escalating the technology for the catcher's mask. A spectacular Bresnahan running pose reflects a superior array of uniform gray, orange and green hues, with the image partly favoring the left edge. Additional highlights include an imposing pumpkin orange and green grass setting, somewhat square corners revealing eye pleasing even wear, no obtrusive flaws, and a most significant bold black Nadja advertisement. One of the most desirable type cards extant, its lofty assessment and extremely obscure Nadja Caramel verso place it on the want lists for a myriad of the most sophisticated candy card hobbyists!
