Mortal Kombat is widely considered one of the greatest video games of all time, originally released by Midway arcade game in 1992 and then by Acclaim in 1993 for Super Nintendo home entertainment systems. This fantastic game featured one-on-one combat between two street fighters, each with a unique set of skills to throw down against their opponent. So popular was the game, more than 3-million copies for home were sold within the first three weeks of its release. As of 2000, more than 6.5-million units have been sold. This most popular game even inspired a pair of Mortal Kombat major motion pictures. Due to the graphic nature of the fighting and sometimes gruesome effects, Mortal Kombat became one game targeted as requiring a rating for children, ultimately leading to the establishment of the ESRB (Electronic Software Rating Board).
