(LOT 294)
1935 Mickey Cochrane Half-Bust PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Original International News Photo - Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 8"

CLASSIC COCHRANE!!!... Offered here is a classic 1935 Mickey Cochrane half-bust 6-1/2" x 8" PSA Type 1 photo taken by the renowned International News Photo service. The image was struck directly after the Tigers clinched the AL pennant, with Detroit eventually besting the Chicago Cubs in the Fall Classic to capture their first ever world championship. Owner of two MVP awards, Cochrane still owns the highest lifetime average for a catcher (.320), and his immense popularity inspired Mutt Mantle to name his future iconic son, Mickey, after the world-class backstop. Cochrane was a perfectionist and managed the Tigers to that 1935 World Series title, and this offering personifies that quality since it provides all of the brilliant aesthetics sought-after by meticulous collectors. The extremely well-centered, crystal clear image depicts a definitive close-up pose of the immortal catcher as he stares directly into the camera. No obtrusive creasing and/or surface flaws are evident, with an assumed defect on the negative resulting in a negligible blemish beneath Cochrane's cap. The verso reveals a cortical caption mentioning that catcher/manager Cochrane is on the way to the World Series, with this outstanding Cochrane illustration reminding us of his superb achievements that ultimately merited him a final resting place in Cooperstown, New York!
