c.1934 Spring Training Photo w/Ruth, Gehrig & McCarthy PSA Type 1 Encapsulated International News Photo – Measures Approx. 7" x 9"

THE BABE & LOU!!!... The unparalleled duo of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig would lead the Yankees to three World Championships and four American League pennants, with their final 1932 title climaxed by the Sultan of Swat's legendary "Called Shot". Unquestionably considered baseball's most fearsome "one-two" all-time batting punch, this dynamic pair would strike incredible fear into the hearts of pitchers for roughly a decade of time. After Miller Huggins untimely passing near the end of the 1929 campaign, formidable Chicago Cubs skipper Joe McCarthy would eventually become the Yankees manager 1931, leading the Bronx Bombers to seven Championships over the next 16 seasons. This outstanding 1934 PSA Type 1 photo portrays the remarkable threesome of Ruth, Gehrig and McCarthy in a leisurely moment on March 13, 1934 in St. Petersburg, Florida, the opening day of the Yankees Spring Training camp.

The crystal clear and extremely well-centered 7" X 9" image reveals McCarthy (on the left) and the Iron Horse leaning their arms on a stoic Babe Ruth. Defying father time over the past 89 years, the photo does exhibit some International News Service scripted light black notations along the outer part of the upper left quadrant, none of which compromise the hallowed central image of these three baseball icons. Additional flaws include some stray wrinkles as well as a few diminutive surface abrasions situated near the upper right frame. The verso includes a significant International News caption detailing this Spring Training opening day, with the caption mentioning that McCarthy and Ruth have discussed the possibility of the Bambino playing on over 100 games in 1934. A truly historic illustration, little did fans know the 1934 season would see Babe Ruth donning a New York uniform for the final time, with his off-season trade to the Boston Braves ending an absolutely unfathomable 15-year run with the immortal Yankees!
