1933 Goudey #53 Babe Ruth SGC 3 VG

BAMBINO GUM CARD!!!... The sudden rise of the pricing points for 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth subjects comes as little surprise since these highly coveted Sultan of Swat keepsakes were undervalued for the longest time. Paving the way for this pricing surge is the augmented values realized for the most desirable of all four Goudey Ruth's, the esteemed #53 Yellow Goudey issue that stands tall among advanced collector's want lists. Presented here is an SGC 3 VG example that portrays a fine Bambino batting illustration originally taken by none other than the immortal Charles Conlon. Fresh off the heels of Ruth's legendary "Called Shot" home run in Game #3 of the 1932 World Series that was the highlight of the Yankees four-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs, the prestigious Boston based Goudey Gum Company issued their landmark 240-subject set.

The Sultan of Swat's unparalleled iconic stature was the main driver for Goudey to issue four separate Ruth subjects, three of which depicted the immortal Charles Conlon Ruth batting pose originally taken during the 1927 campaign. The irrefutable most valuable Ruth subject is his #53 yellow background memento that over the past several years has seen many VG examples fetch in excess of $20K. Substantiating its hallowed stature were PSA 9 and PSA 8 examples realizing record-breaking $4.2 million and $942K prices, respectively, both in Memory Lane Auctions. Regarding the card itself, the Ruthian batting image bursts with sparkling hues, ably assisted by a bright yellow setting. Accounting for the assessment are a few stray wrinkles barely visible to the naked eye and typical corner wear. With a 3 VG specimen fetching a momentous $38K in 2021, there are obviously no limits for its immense pricing potential, justifying why any esteemed vintage enthusiast should emulate the Bambino by hitting a home run of their own via a simple final bid!
