1911 T205 Gold Border Christy Mathewson Piedmont Cigarettes/Factory 42 PSA 7 NM

T205 MATTY MASTERPIECE!!!... Most historians would agree that the iconic Christy Mathewson was the turn of the century Babe Ruth to millions of aspiring young American boys. Christy's 373 wins are still tied (with Grover Alexander) for the most NL lifetime wins, and his three shutouts in the 1905 World Series against Connie Mack's Philadelphia A's will forever stand as baseball's all-time fall classic accomplishment for a pitcher. This, along with three consecutive 30-win seasons (including 37 in 1908), all support the argument for Mathewson being one of the premier all-time hurlers. With that in mind, what better baseball artifact to add to your collection than an absolutely breathtaking Christy Mathewson 1911 T205 Gold Border subject that has been appropriately assigned a PSA NM 7 assessment. As advanced collectors know, T205 Gold Border cards are extremely condition sensitive due to the gold borders' serious flaking, substantiating why only ten of the roughly 800 PSA encapsulated examples equal this grade, with a mere eight specimens graded higher!

This card portrays the classic Mathewson Helmar Cigarette advertisement portrait pose depicting brilliant hues and crystal-clear clarity, with the extremely well-centered image only slightly favoring the right edge. The gold borders, the standard condition-related hindrance for most T205s, have miraculously retained virtually all of its original rich gold hue, with only some diminutive flaking situated near the lower right corner. No obtrusive surface blemishes are evident, the corners reveal a majority of their factory issued right-angle formations, and the bold midnight blue Piedmont Cigarettes and brief Mathewson bio are intact. The sparkling aesthetics of this card are nearly immaculate, defying the past 122 years while still retaining a majority of their original pack-fresh attributes. What could be more appealing than an extremely condition-sensitive issue representing one of baseball's greatest immortals that has miraculously withstood the test of time to the tune of a Near-Mint technical assessment. If you are seeking to add one of Matty's most exalted cards to your elite collection, now is the time to jump aboard this Big Six masterpiece and ride it directly right into the heart of your collection via a simple final bid!
