1909 T206 Cy Young Portrait "Piedmont 150 Subjects/Factory 25" SGC 5 EX

MAGNIFICENT CY!!!... One of the most coveted 1909-11 ATC subjects is the iconic Cy Young "portrait" specimen, presented here in a stellar SGC 5 EX holder. A super eye pleasing mid-grade Cy Young portrait T206 is one of the most revered cards in the hobby, carrying momentous prestige among vintage collectors. Cy Young is the legendary author of arguably baseball's most unbreakable record of 511 lifetime victories, justifying why baseball chose his name to represent the annual pitching excellence award. His "Cy" nickname was achieved early in his career when one of his fastballs blew past a catcher and shattered a nearby fence, prompting a newspaper reporter to compare Young's fastball to a destructive cyclone!

Obviously, the nickname stuck, with Young referred to as "Cy" the remainder of his incomparable career. Synonymous with Young's unparalleled achievements is this iconic marvel that includes Carl Horner's timeless portrait image. Among the myriad of world-class features are atypical near-perfect centering, brilliant facial tints, bright white borders, modest/even corner wear depicting an eye pleasing uniformity, and a super bold green background that is one of the most coveted attributes for Cy's T206 portrait subject. One of the finest T206 Cy Young mid-grade examples we have ever handled, its only notable flaws include some negligible soiling/toning along the right edge as well as a diminutive area of faint blue residue situated along the right lower border. The final exclamation point is the flipside's extremely bold blue Piedmont 150 Subjects text, with only a mild soiling spot evident in the lower left quadrant. One of the most sought after T206s continues to be the iconic Cy Young portrait subject, with this stupendous SGC 5 EX heirloom revealing a myriad of aesthetically appealing qualities ironically similar to Young's arguable king of the hill stature!
