1909-11 T206 Chick Gandil Rookie Card - Piedmont 350-460/25 - PSA 7 NM – "POP 3" Piedmont; Only 2 Piedmont PSA Examples Graded Higher!

T206 NM GANDIL!!!... Renowned for being one of the eight 1919 "Black Sox" coconspirators, slick fielding first sacker Chick Gandil was the primary catalyst in having seven additional Chicago White Sox players accept money to "throw" the 1919 Fall Classic. Gandil initially met with gambler Joseph Sullivan (one of Arnold Rothstein's mob thugs) on September 18, 1919 at the Boston based Hotel Buckminster to set the wheels in motion for this tragic event, with Chick laying out his plan to the seven other Black Sox accomplices only a few days later at Chicago's Ansonia Hotel. Yet, synonymous with the likes of Joe Jackson, Weaver, Cicotte and company, due to this scandal, Gandil's popularity has increased profoundly, with his cardboard treats highly coveted in the collecting community.

One such artifact is this stupendous PSA 7 NM T206 rookie card that carries a Piedmont 350-460 subjects/Factory 25 ad back. Joined by a meager two other Piedmont examples on the PSA Pop Chart, it has only been surpassed by two examples! This T206 beauty was issued during the time when a 22-year-old Gandil played his first MLB season with the White Sox in 1910, revealing an awe-inspiring batting pose of the bygone star. Sparkling green, orange, yellow and blue hues steal the show, with the impeccable image residing between four snow white borders. Only bested by a mere two examples, this T206 Gandil rookie subject serves as a steadfast reminder of how the promising young Chick Gandil compromised his stellar career via his sheer avarice, ultimately leading to his permanent ban from professional baseball!
