(LOT 31)
1909 E90-1 American Caramel Cy Young "Boston Red Portrait" PSA 4 VG-EX

CLASSIC CY!!!... Loaded with Hall of Famers, one of the illustrious E90-1 set's most sought-after Cooperstown inductees is the immortal Cy Young, and presented here is one of his most coveted early 20th century cards, the E90-1 Boston red-portrait pose in a super eye pleasing PSA 4 VG-EX holder. They named a pitching award after the great Cy Young, and this candy card of the legendary right hander likewise merits an award for aesthetic appeal. Cy Young established the benchmark for all other pitchers to chase, with his 511 lifetime wins a seemingly unbreakable record. Additional achievements include over 7,000 innings pitched, winning over 20 games fifteen times, over 30 games five times, and an incomprehensible 749 complete games, substantiating why baseball chose his name to represent the annual pitching excellence award.

The overall eye appeal of this hallowed Young specimen is spectacular, with the famous Carl Horner portrait image providing robust hues, and set against a vibrant fire engine red background that soundly projects the bold red "B.A." letters affixed across his Boston flannels. Somewhat white borders do reveal areas of scattered toning, the even corner wear is consistent with the grade, and no glaring flaws are evident on either side. The final thumbs up is the verso's relatively clean American Caramel advertisement, and for full disclosure, the lower edge reflects an angled factory issued cut as well as the image modestly favoring the left edge. Most enthusiasts would surely agree that any serious vintage card collection requires the addition of this immensely popular Cy Young candy card that turns back the clock to a year when Cy was setting a myriad of statistical benchmarks for the ages!
