(LOT 28)
1888 N28 Allen & Ginter Adrian "Cap" Anson PSA 8 NM-MT – Only 3 PSA Examples Graded Higher!

PSA 8 ANSON!!!... The ultra-attractive N28 Allen & Ginter Champions cards were distributed in packs of Allen & Ginter cigarettes and included ten baseball players as well as other popular figures of the day (e.g., Annie Oakley, John Sullivan, Buffalo Bill Cody, etc.). A total of 50 different subjects were portrayed in brilliantly hued lithographic images, with the most highly sought-after subject, immortal Hall of Famer Adrian "Cap" Anson, presented here in a magnificent PSA 8 NM-MT holder. Currently, this remarkable offering is joined by only eight other copies at this hallowed plateau, with a mere three specimens graded higher! Allen & Ginter cards included some of the game's most prominent 19th century Hall of Famers including Anson, Keefe, Clarkson, Kelly, etc., and it's no secret that Adrian "Cap" Anson arguably resides as the most illustrious player for any 19th century collector.

The legendary Hall of Fame first baseman of the Chicago club was the first member of the illustrious 3,000 hit club, ultimately ending a remarkable 27-year career with a .329 lifetime batting average. Furthermore, he clubbed 97 home runs, once walloping five dingers over a two-game span, in an era where only a few each season was a formidable feat. Synonymous with his 19th century achievements are the breathtaking aesthetics for a card that has recently celebrated its 135th birthday. This example portrays a spectacular "bat on shoulder" image of the majestic Chicago first sacker as he prepares to stroke another one of his 3,000+ safeties. Near-perfect contrast, vivid resolution and brilliant hues are all impeccable-like features, with a bright white surface serving as a textbook backdrop. Razor sharp edging, pinpoint corners, a gleaming obverse side surface free of any notable flaws and the verso's imposing "World Champions" blue texted checklist complete this mesmerizing Cap Anson keepsake that rarely surfaces boasting the sanctified PSA 8 assessment.
