(LOT 1812)
1998 Harry Caray "We'll miss you, Harry" City of Chicago Light Pole Banner

ALRIGHT, LET ME HEAR YA!!! Harry Caray began his broadcasting career in his hometown of St. Louis calling games for the Cardinals for 25 years (1945-1969) and the Browns (1945-46). A short stint with Oakland was followed by a decade calling White Sox play-by-play (1971-1981). Caray found a home in Chicago as he soon moved uptown to work for the Chicago Cubs from 1982 to 1997. As voice of the Cubs for 15 years, Caray became legendary among broadcasting and the sheer joy he portrayed as a fan of the Northsiders. The singing of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh inning stretch was a must-see event 82 games each season at Wrigley Field.

In 1998, the beloved Harry Caray passed away and to commemorate the huge loss Cubs and baseball fans were feeling across the city, the Chicago Tribune, WGN TV & Radio, CLTV News and the Chicago Cubs teamed to produce a number of products honoring the "Voice of the Cubs." This 97" x 30" black canvas light pole banner hung proudly in the Chicago streets, along the famed Michigan Avenue or around Wrigleyville. Display a caricature likeness of Caray's humongous glasses and beaming smile at the top, the banner reads "We'll miss you, Harry" at center in white signed "The people of Chicago". At the bottom are the aforementioned sponsors and "City of Chicago – Richard M. Daley, Mayor". A touching tribute to one of the Windy City's adopted sons and the Voice of the Cubs. Wind slits are present and pole pockets are sewn at top and bottom.
