(LOT 1766)
Late-1880s Boston/Washington Scorecard with Kelly, O'Rourke & Mack

In 1887, Connie Mack was in his second season behind the plate for the Washington Nationals. The lanky backstop had great potential, but the Nationals team was short-lived. On the other hand, the Boston Beaneaters had two future Hall of Famers in Old Hoss Radbourn and Mike "King" Kelly, though Radbourn is not listed on in the preprinted lineup score sheet. Offered is a scorecard from the late 1880s, consistent with May 14, 1887 when the Boston squad beat Mack's Nationals 10-2 in Boston.

This colorful 4-1/4" x 7" Wright & Ditson sponsored scorecard presents a fanciful player with the caption "IT'S OVER YOUR HEAD" on the front with advertisements covering the back and around the internal scorecard. The scorecard has been scored by a knowledgeable fan in both pencil and fountain pen. On this date, Kelly scored twice and stole four bases while Mack went 1-for-4 with two errors and nine putouts. Though evidence of aging is apparent at the binding or fold, this colorful relic from the 1880s remains in remarkable condition. This should catch the eye of all program and card collectors with the Hall of Fame talent and sheer historic value.
