(LOT 1704)
1939 Hank Greenberg Autographed Laurel Card 4-1/4" x 2-3/4" - PSA-Encapsulated Authentic

Presented to attendees of the sports clinics sponsored by the Academy of Sport at the World's Fair in New York in 1939, laurel cards such as this were distributed to students instructed by Major Leaguers following completion of the clinic. MLB players volunteered their time to teach young ballplayers the fundamentals of the game and signed each student's laurel card once the clinics ended. The offered 4-1/4" x 2-3/4" card was issued from the Academy of Sport as: "This certifies that Guy Anselmo (scripted in black fountain pen) of Brooklyn, NY (also scripted) attended class in School of Baseball" signed by the Instructor of the Day "Hank" Greenberg. Greenberg's signature is also signed in deep black fountain pen ("8-9" strength).

The back shows the "American Academy of Sport Golden Laurel – New York World's Fair" logo following by its mission statement. Only the slightest touch of water damage is visible on the back right edge, but nothing obstructs the message of the card or the signature of the Hall of Fame Tiger. This wonderful memento encapsulated Authentic by PSA, was surely a treasure of the young Guy Anselmo punctuated by Hall of Fame slugger Hank Greenberg's signature.
