(LOT 123)
1926 Ty Cobb Typewritten and Signed Letter to his Agent Christy Walsh - PSA-Encapsulated Authentic

In March of 1926, Ty Cobb would have been gearing up for his 22nd, and what would be his last season with the Detroit Tigers. Throughout much of his career, the famed Tiger and greatest player on the planet was represented by agent Christy Walsh, the baseball sports agent who also represented Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Walter Johnson and Dizzy Dean, to name a few. The offered is a letter from Cobb to Christy Walsh following a procedure Cobb underwent at Johns Hopkins. This heartfelt, typewritten correspondence offers condolences to Walsh regarding his father's passing as well as referencing scrap books that Cobb is looking to be returned.

Following his salutation at closing, Ty Cobb has signed the letter in his distinguishing green fountain pen. The PSA/DNA encapsulated letter, dated March 20th, 1926, appears in blue ink in excellent condition for a near century-old piece and displays several horizontal and vertical folds from mailing. Light rust residue is also evident at left in the form of a long-attached paper clip. This dispatch presents evidence of a different time when agents were also friends of their clients, and did not necessarily perceive them as strictly dollar signs.
