(LOT 64)
1952 Bowman #1 Yogi Berra PSA 8 NM-MT

HIGH-GRADE YOGI!!! It comes as little surprise that a 71-year-old baseball card standing as the #1 subject in the set would result in a minimum number of PSA 9/10 examples. Such is the case for this magnificent PSA 8 NM-MT 1952 Bowman #1 Yogi Berra offering that has only been bested by a meager six PSA 9s! Indeed, at the time this was written, of the 1,350+ PSA encapsulated specimens, not a single 10 had been recorded, a common issue for any #1 vintage subject. Due to an abundance of young enthusiast collectors placing their cards in checklist number order, any set's #1 card would sit at the top of the stack, now at the mercy of severe rubber band remnants, sunlight exposure or any potential damage from the surrounding elements. The immortal Yogi Berra is arguably considered the greatest catcher of all-time (along with Johnny Bench), and it would take virtually a full catalog to appropriately list all of his remarkable achievements.

Highly noted for his clutch performances on baseball's grandest stages, Berra's World Series records include: 14 appearances, 10 championships, 75 games played and 71 all-time hits. If that isn't enough, he won three MVP awards and played in a remarkable 15 all-star games. All of the above are a steadfast testament to Berra's all-time stature, justifying why a myriad of elite collectors' scramble to obtain his finest existing artifacts. One of Berra's most popular images, his classic lithographic batting pose jumps-off the card via its impeccable clarity and sparkling hues. While the image does favor the left edge between four blinding white borders, razor-sharp corners, a flawless obverse side surface and super clean verso eluding any gum stains are bona fide exclamation points justifying the seldom seen PSA 8 assessment. One of the premier 1952 Bowman Berra specimens extant, it would make a fine addition to any esteemed 1952 Bowman or Hall of Fame cardboard gatherings!
