(LOT 61)
Ted Williams 1952 Berk Ross PSA 8 NM-MT – Only One PSA Example Graded Higher!

SCARCE TEDDY BALLGAME!!! Due to Ted William's contractual issues between Topps and Bowman during the early 1950s, as well as his sudden departure to the Korean war in early 1952, no '52 Topps or Bowman set includes the iconic Splendid Splinter. The only 1952 baseball card of the great Ted Williams is the '52 Berk Ross Williams subject that seldom surfaces for the taking. That said, presented here is a spectacular PSA 8 NM-MT Berk Ross Williams that has only been bested by a single PSA example! Synonymous with virtually all 1950s cardboard issues, the Ted Williams Berk Ross subject stands as one of the set's most prominent and valuable players from the 72-card "Hit Parade of Champions" series issued by the New York City based Berk Ross company.

The 1952 campaign would see The Kid play in only six games with 12 measly plate appearances before he would be packing his bags for Korea. A true American hero, Williams would shoot down 16 enemy aircraft, courtesy of his uncanny eyesight that enabled him to ultimately become our National Pastime's greatest all-time hitter. This PSA 8 masterpiece reveals a sensational bust/portrait image of the legendary Ted who graces its viewers with a candid good-natured grin. Donning his classic Boston Red Sox home flannels, atypically, the illustration reveals near-perfect centering, with a majority of Berk Ross cards exhibiting skewed images. Right-angled corners, clean surfaces and a razor-sharp perimeter are additional highlights justifying the world-class assessment, with the final superlative being a pack-fresh verso reflecting the bold black "HIT PARADE OF CHAMPIONS" caption as well as some of the Thumper's vital statistics.

The only mainstream 1952 Ted Williams baseball card, its scarce for the grade status immediately places it as one of the most significant baseball cards for this heroic U.S. fighter pilot and immortal Hall of Famer, known by many of his admirers as "The Kid!"
