(LOT 91)
1934 Goudey #6 Dizzy Dean PSA 8.5 NM-MT+ – "POP 1"; Only 3 PSA Examples Graded Higher!

'34 DEAN!!! A legendary Hall of Fame pitcher, Dean will forever be considered one of the most popular and admired players to ever grace a baseball diamond. He is the last National League 30 game winner, a feat accomplished in the 1934 season in which he and his brother Daffy won a combined 49 games, leading the Cardinals to a World Series title. By the age of 26, he had already won an incredible 134 games and was well on his way to being a 300-game winner until a line-drive off the bat of Earl Averill in the 1937 All-Star game broke his toe. Consequently, Dizzy altered his pitching motion in favor of his injury, resulting in several arm injuries that curtailed his HOF career. He was traded to the Cubs for the 1938 season and hung up his spikes after the 1941 campaign (he actually resurfaced in 1947 and made a single 4-inning appearance with the St. Louis Browns).

One of Dean's most treasured artifacts is his 1934 Goudey #6 subject, presented here in a spectacular PSA 8.5 NM-MT+ holder. The SOLE specimen at this exalted tier, only three measly examples have managed to exceed this pack-fresh marvel! Arguably Dizzy Dean's most coveted card, this '34 Goudey gem, includes a virtually un-improvable Dean pitching pose set against a vibrant array of background green hues. Outstanding centering only reveals a hint of favoritism towards the lower edge between four blinding white borders. Right-angled corners, immaculate surfaces and a sparkling overall presence complete this unique for the grade masterpiece that has stubbornly defied father-time over the past 88 years.
